How do virtual sessions work?

Using video chat platforms such as Zoom, Facetime and Skype our trainers can now work with your child remotely. As long as you have a device with a webcam, one of these popular applications and clear space to exercise (5ft by 5 ft space).

Our autism exercise specialists can use a slower pace of exercise, along with supportive strategies so your child can learn how to move, and go at their own pace. It starts with our unique approach to verbal instruction, called modified language. This means trainers using less language to deliver short clear instructions.

Each exercise is presented by the trainer first so your child can observe and develop an understanding of the movement. Through the use of kinesthetic cues, the trainer can provide the client with feedback to their exercise form. This can support clients in learning proper form, ensuring a safe exercise experience.

Is virtual training the right choice for my child?

Virtual training is not appropriate for everyone with special needs, but it can certainly serve as a valuable tool for those who can follow verbal and visual instructions. If your child struggles to attend to a speaker (whether on a screen or in person) virtual training may not be the best solution.

If your trying to determine if your child would benefit from virtual training ask yourself these two questions. Can my child attend and follow verbal instruction (with supports)? Will my child tolerate staying in the exercise space for (at least) 30 minutes (with supports)? If you answered no to either of these questions, perhaps our in-home adaptive training would be a more appropriate solution for your child.

The American Council on Exercise (ACE) is the world’s largest nonprofit health and fitness organization. ACE is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). Personal trainers operating in accordance with the ACE standards, follow a comprehensive approach from assessments to training.
