Exercise for Autism
Experts have listed exercise amongst the most effective, evidence-based treatments for people with autism (1). It’s time the autism families of Central Massachusetts have access to a personal training company specializing in working with children on the spectrum.
David Crowley founded Adaptive Exercise in 2017, to help children on the spectrum improve their health, become more independent, and social. Exercise has been documented to be therapeutic in all of these areas for people with ASD (2).
Adaptive Exercise uses applied behavior analysis teaching strategies, along with added supports to teach children on the spectrum how to exercise safely, yet effectively. Everything from the equipment used to the exercises are carefully selected with safety in mind.
Traditional gyms can be loud and crowded, which may not be the ideal setting for your child. But, in-home training allows your child to work out in a familiar environment. The exercise sessions are goal focused, tracked by data, but most importantly fun.
The programming is centered around functional movement training. Movements that will benefit each athlete not just in the realm of fitness, but in their everyday lives. Whether they are reaching up high to get something from the cabinet, carrying a heavy backpack or walking up stairs. Functional movement training prepares the body for optimal performance in activities of daily living.
