About Adaptive Exercise

David Crowley was first introduced to working in the field of special education in high school, when he took an internship with the school Speech Language Pathologist. He quickly knew that he wanted to work with people with autism. David went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Communication Disorders from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Since graduating he has spent the past seven years working as a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant, as well as an ABA Counselor.

Working in special education programs, he became concerned with the sedentary lifestyles, low muscle tone and rates of obesity of many of the students he was trying to help. David, a long-time fitness enthusiast himself, began to look into adaptive physical education for people on the spectrum. He quickly realized there was a large void of services.

He decided to turn his focus to earning a personal training licensure and developing exercise programing to fit the needs of people with autism. After two years of extensive research and development David founded Adaptive Exercise in 2017.

Adaptive Exercise was formed in accordance with the American Council on Exercise, using Applied Behavior Analysis based teaching strategies. Programming is individualized and developed based on assessments, to ensure client success.

Autism presents differently in everyone, but for many individuals on the spectrum traditional exercise or personal training options are not suitable. Adaptive Exercise makes exercise fun, safe and enables individuals with ASD to experience the countless benefits that come with a healthier you.

The American Council on Exercise (ACE) is the world’s largest nonprofit health and fitness organization. ACE is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). Personal trainers operating in accordance with the ACE standards, follow a comprehensive approach from assessments to training.
